Customer Stories: Flying Safari Team Saves a Life Mid-Adventure

At Flying Safari, thrill and safety go hand in hand. A recent incident proved this when our pilots, Rhine and Rhone, took swift action to save a guest’s life during a paramotoring session in Goa.

A Ride Turns Critical

Visitor Bhavika Trivedi and her group had just completed their paramotoring adventure. As Bhavika walked back, she realized that one of her friends was missing. Moments later, she saw him lying on the ground, convulsing due to a seizure.

Swift Action, Life Saved

Rhine and Rhone immediately took charge of the situation, ensuring the guest’s safety with quick and precise actions:

Placed him in the recovery position : Lying on his side to prevent choking.
Kept the crowd at bay :  Instructed onlookers to give space and avoid unnecessary panic.
Closely monitored vital signs : Ready to administer CPR if needed.
Provided medical guidance : Educated the group on the importance of seizure first aid.

Their timely intervention ensured the guest regained stability without further complications. This level of preparedness averted a potentially life-threatening situation.

The Importance of First Aid in Adventure Sports

This incident highlights why emergency readiness is crucial in adventure sports. Key takeaways:

  1. Choose certified adventure sports operators:  Ensure the team has medical and safety training.
  2. Understand medical history : Be aware of personal health conditions before engaging in extreme activities.
  3. Follow safety guidelines : Adventure providers should have structured emergency response plans

A Thankful Experience

Bhavika and her group were immensely grateful for the quick response from Rhine, Rhone, and the Flying Safari team. What began as an exhilarating adventure transformed into an inspiring example of preparedness and care.

Hello all,

This review is about something other than the ride. (Which by the way was nothing short of Breathtaking! Really loved it!)

Here I would like to talk about the guys – Rhine and Rone- from Flying Safari (apologies, if I got the names wrong). They were a lifesaver for us.

So, we a group of four – couples, married, had just finished the ride. I was the last one to do it. As I got off and moved towards our group, still pretty high, I noticed one of our friend from the group was not around. I saw someone lying on the ground some distance away, shaking unusually. It took me a few seconds to realise it was our friend and he was having a seizure/fit.

(Please note our friend has had a medical history, last time he had it was almost four years ago, we had almost forgotten about it. We later found out he had skipped his daily medicine. We also had a very exhaustive day with all the swimming at the beach, water sports, travel etc., with no proper lunch. All this probably added up. Still, we are also at a fault here).

So our friend was in a big trouble. We all rushed towards him, including Rhine and Ron. The duo immediately made our friend lie to his side, told people not to crowd him. They also made sure he stayed in the same position. Situation was really tense for a while. The duo monitored him closely. They were even ready for CPR – chest pumping, mouth-to-mouth etc., if it came to that. After a while, thankfully, fits stopped. Our friend got normal soon and was able to move around.

(R&R would explain later how important it was that patient was rolled onto his side (the recovery position in this case) and not onto his back. They recalled one case where the guy during the fits was on his back. Somehow the toung of the guy rolled inwards as he had no control over it and choked him to death. People around him sadly couldn’t figure it out..)

Phew ! We avoided a big mishap. Things could have really gone out of the control. I am sorry everyone, we were not competent enough, didn’t know the basic first aid, didn’t know how to proceed, were sort of caught off guard here. With R&R, we really got lucky.

Soon after we were ready to return. R&R told us of a restaurant and primary healthcare centre nearby, if required. One other group helped us on our journey back home (~30 kms). Our friend and his wife got a lift in their SUV, while one of them rode one of our two-wheeler. We safely reached our place and thanked our luck.

R&R thank you both of you. Thank you for the timely intervention. Thank you for calmly handling the situation. Thank you for advising us afterwards. We can’t thank you guys enough. Thanks to the entire Flying Safari team. Thanks to the SUV guys. Thanks everyone. We are really grateful.

Our Best Wishes to all,
सर्वे भवन्तु सुखिनः
Namaste & Pranaam
